The School-Site Scholars facilitates monthly meetings and follow-up support with teacher scholars at their school site. In 2011-2012, Mills Teacher Scholars is working at three local school sites. In the School-site Scholars  we work intensively at the site for 3 years to build a community of practice at the school site that focuses on understanding student learning. Each year teacher leaders from the site join our Teacher Scholar Leaders Network to collaborate on providing on-going support beyond these three years.

In September 2011, Mills Teacher Scholars began a new School-site Scholars project at Rosa Parks Elementary in Berkeley Unified with 28 teachers – 98% of the staff—researching their students’ learning with Mills Teacher Scholars. In San Leandro, we are continuing our work with Principal Victoria Forrester and a group of 14 self-selected K-5, Roosevelt Elementary teachers. We are excited to continue our partnership with New Highland Academy, in east Oakland and have been joined by teacher researchers from RISE Elementary.

The Mills Scholars Group, in its thirteenth year, is a collaborative community of teachers who meet monthly to support each other in conducting research about their practice in classrooms and other educational settings. The purpose of their research is to better understand the complex workings of teaching and learning with the ultimate goal of improving practice and improving student outcomes. At the end of each research cycle, the Scholars share their findings with the broader educational community.

The Scholars Writing Project supports Mills Scholars participants in going public with their inquiry findings. Scholars attend summer writing sessions to prepare their work for submission to journals and conferences.
